As part of Chelmsford & District Mind's Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies project, we specialise in Counselling, Psychotherapy and CBT for individuals.
Counselling (often known as "talking therapy") provides skilled listening in a safe and confidential environment. This will enable discussion of deep and sensitive issues which can emerge over time in an atmosphere of trust.
The purpose of the counselling process is to allow us to explore emotional difficulties in a way that opens up opportunities for a more resourceful satisying way of life. We work within the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Chelmsford Mind offers "short term" or "open ended" counselling depending on what is appropriate for you.
Our counsellors work in a variety of ways, for example using integrative psychotherapy. If you think a particular counselling model would be best for you, please discuss this during your assessment. When you meet your counsellor you will have the opportunity to ask them how they work. Many of our counsellors are in the final years of their training as counsellors or psychotherapists. They donate their time as part of their training, and this allows us to offer counselling at a reduced fee in some circumstances.
All our counsellors have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau and have regular supervision.
You will always meet with the same counsellor, at the same time and in the same room.
The counselling service is open to anyone who can travel to either Chelmsford or Braintree and is able to pay a fee. The assessment fee is charged between £30-£40, the fee for sessions will be negotiated in assessment and based upon your income and ability to pay. We work on a sliding scale of between £25 - £50 per session.
Evening and weekend appointments cost more than daytime appointments and are almost always charged at full price.
You would normally be expected to pay for every session. However, if you cannot make your appointment, and no notice is given then the full fee will be charged. If 48 hours notice is given, room hire only is charged. If the counsellor is on holiday, no fee is charged.
The assessment is important as you and the assessor will decide if counselling is suitable for you. You will be asked about your reasons for wanting counselling and about some of the things that have happened in your life.
We are committed to offering the highest standards adhering to strict guidelines of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), UKCP (United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy) and BAPPS (British Association of Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision).
If you ever suffer from: Depression, anxiety, bereavement, post-natal depression, post traumatic stress, anger issues, phobias, eating disorders / disordered eating, psychosexual problems, relationship problems, agoraphobia, chronic fatigue, work related stress, transgender issues or issues around sexuality then counselling CAN help.
